+ Griffith backed Paret into a corner and had him in trouble after landing a series of hooks and uppercuts. Paret was hanging defenseless on the ropes as referee Rudy Goldstein hesitated, allowing Griffith to prolong the attack. Perhaps part of Goldstein's lack of action was due to the fact that Paret often feigned injury, hoping to catch overanxious opponents on the way in. But this wasn't an act and by the time Goldstein intervened, Paret was slumping to the canvas. Paret never regained consciousness. He lapsed into a coma and died 10 days after the fight.

+ TOKYO, JAPAN - Previously unbeaten Japanese #10 ranked flyweight prospect Yoshihiro Irei, 22, fell into a coma after he got knocked down in the 6th and final round.

+ NEW YORK - A boxer underwent three hours of brain surgery Wednesday after being punched into a coma just two rounds after ringside physicians nearly stopped his light-heavyweight fight. Beethavean Scottland, 26, was in extremely critical condition at Bellevue Hospital, where his family was keeping vigil. Just hours later he was pronounced dead.  Scottland was knocked out Tuesday in the 10th round of his fight. 

+ 26-year-old Patricia Devellerez from Perth, Australia had to placed in an induced coma for several days after being knocked out by a single punch to the head in the third round of a bout.

+ A professional boxer, Ibarra awoke two months after a knockout punch caused him to undergo brain surgery in January, 1999. Doctors had predicted that Ibarra might never again regain conciousness.

+ SHEFFIELD, ENGLAND - Boxer Paul Ingle remained in a drug induced coma Monday after surgery to remove a blood clot on his brain following a featherweight title defense.

+ As of today, fighter Andres Fernandez still lies in a coma.

+ A one-sided contest between Khululekile Sibeko and Lindile Tyhali which ended in Tyhali being taken to the hospital in a coma.

+ Family members moved a UM boxer who has been in a coma since Feb. 20 from St. Patrick Hospital to his hometown of Asheville, NC. early Tuesday morning.
